Local Biscuits? Homegrown High Fashion!

Claire and I headed downtown this morning to see what kind of local products our favorite retailers are carrying. Seems to be a little disconnect for some retailers when in comes to selling NS products in their shops.  The store owners I talked to today were very supportive of NS goods and would like to be able to offer them to their customers. My friend Wendy, who owns Biscuit General Store, would like to carry more locally made goods but can’t compete when they are being sold directly at craft fairs, Etsy or Farmers Markets. Often small producers are buying their materials at retail prices and aren’t manufacturing in large quantities. So what? Should the customer being willing to pay more? The retailers take a smaller margin? Producers cut costs or increase production? Only sell direct through markets? I am curious  what  you think.

I did find some beautiful homegrown greats at Biscuit. Sisters Louanna & Hilary Murphy both sell their one of a kind wares at the General Store. Here are some of the pieces I love! Louanna’ s top and floral skirt (right). Hilary’s necklace (below).
